I've been looking at the tons of internship opportunities I can pursue in the next few years (when i will be a junior/senior) but the part I don't get is even if I do get the internship, I really don't think I would be able to make living arrangements and I have yet to see that as being provided for (that would be soooo nice!). It's not like my location at home, and my location at college are even that bad, although none of these highly coveted opportunities are available at either place. Not everyone lives in NYC and even if you did, it's a really BIG place w/ LOTS of traffic so my question is how does anyone do it!?

There's tons of sublets for reasonable amounts of money in large cities, and in smaller locales, the company will often help out with housing. My friend that worked for GM for a summer was placed in a fellow engineer's house with their family, and the next summer they were given a housing stipend and could rent whatever they wanted with it.

My girlfriend just flew out to her summer internship in Phoenix, and the company is paying for a rental car, her airplane ticket to/from Phoenix, and a suite in a Marriott for the entire summer (she described it to me as being like a fully furnished efficiency).

oh wow thats exactly what i wanted to hear!

There are companies out there that won't help you with housing, but you can always try to find things through Criagslist and stuff like that. It's far from optimal going that route, but everyone I know has had at least some help finding housing from whoever they're working for.

When I did a summer program at another school they put all of us in the program inside one of the dorms, which was actually pretty neat and convenient.
