I saw so many people here did "research" or "internship" during summer, but where did you guys find it?? I searched "intership" on many college's wesites but they were all for undergraduate students....so any way where did you find the opportunity and don't tell me that the professor is your relative or your parents' friends etc etc etc

bump....i would really like to know this too

thats usually hot it happens tho...its connections when ur in HS. In college its different, but if u want research or internships in HS u really gotta be a pain in the butt with places u wanna internship at (which may or may not be a good thing) or know people who can hook you up.

I personally got an amazing internship at my hospital cause i knew the chief plastic surgeon and chief ER nurse, so i was shadowing doctors all the time while my friends were pushing wheelchairs around ;)

Eh, I'm trying to get researchers at the Princeton Environmental Institute to let me work with them. I emailed the Outreach Coordinator and sent her my resume, and she said she'll send an email around. I should've gone through the entire list and emailed each person individually or something :P.

Is shadowing any good though? I dont see how it can benefit you if you do it every single day and are not actually helping out..

You get some hands on experience. As Doogie said, it's better than pushing wheelchairs around. It means you actually did something that will help you later on.

oh.. I thought job shadowing is just following the professional aruond and not helping him or somethin so how do you land up getting hands on experience? Does the professional ask you to help him out in certain things?

well...it depends on your doctor. Some will teach u how to purge IV's or put on O2 Nasals or NRFMs. Easy stuff you can learn right away.

But some may just want you to watch. That will probably be the case because if i was a doc...id be freaked out for insurance purposes.

I can say for my shadowing experiences tho, i was able to do alot in the ER and doc offices because i was a NYS cert. first responder for 2 years and then became a NYS EMT

I've done business and architecture internships, got them all through my family.

What kind of things do you guys put on your resumes?

I've put my education, language skills, volunteer service and work experience and possible career plans

I was looking into a job shadowing program for engineers so not sure if they'll let me do stuff ....I guess its a gamble.. i really wouldnt want to spend my time just seeing what the professionals do and not help them in any way or actually do the stuff..

For high school internships I would ask a councelor or check online. Also some people with connections ask their family members and previous employers. Also I would just ask different companies if they had internships in your area.

I just e-mailed 4 professors at UWashington who were looking for undergrad students to do research and landed a research project. No resume needed - professors here seem so open for students to do research. However, I had the advantage of being an incoming undergraduate so I don't know how they would react to regular high school students.
