internship not in specific area? tips for getting internships

i'm a sophomore in materials science, and i've always wanted to go into the biomedical field. at this point though, i've been applying to every internship under the sun in regards to materials science (automotive supply companies, steel companies, etc). i know some of the big biomed companies don't even recruit sophomores (medtronic i know asks for junior standing)

so i was wondering: if i end up getting an internship in say, steel, will it look bad when i try to get internships for a biomedical firm next year? i feel like at this point i just need experience as i do plan on going into industry....

also, i seem to have been failing at getting any internship so far. no interview. i'm going to tweak my resume over break. i have a 3.210 which is decent, and i'm starting to get pretty involved in SWE. there's another career fair in february. what are you supposed to say when you talk to recruiters?

bump? i would really like any advice about how to stand out to recruiters, etc.

Go to your school’s career fair.
