Can any existing Engineering students or parents of existing Engineering students shed light on internship opportunities kids get while they are engineering school. My D got accepted Mech Engineering but thinking to switch Computer and she liked prosthetic research at GEE.
UF students have to complete a survey before graduation. You can see information like starting salaries, etc. Based on the survey data 81% of ME undergrads worked at least 1 internship, 69% of CS majors.
My daughter (graduated last December) ended up working two internships.
However, it’s tough (at any school) to get an internship before your junior year. Many companies only select Juniors/Seniors for internships, as they view them as recruiting tools. You can get an internship as a freshman/sophomore, but don’t be concerned if it doesn’t happen, it didn’t for my daughter.

Also, keep in mind that it’s easy to switch majors (multiple times) before your junior year. She can start as a ME, and then switch to CS at a later date. At some other schools it can be very hard to switch your major.
Good Luck!
@Gator88NE - thank you so much. Do you know what types of companies come for internships or recruiting them… Iam so worried she will end up companies from south only and not progress to north or north east.
Oh no, UF is well recruited by national firms. If you look at those graduation survey results, you’ll see that 43% of ME’s get their first job outside of the state of Florida.
Here is a listing of companies that attended last year’s (Fall) Career Showcase. You can search by major.

If you search for mechanical engineers, you get 118 companies. Some are local, many others are large multi-national corporations.
Good Luck!
Thank you so much @Gator88NE Very detailed. Looks like ME is tops than CS
