Just wondering, which one, internship in a well-known company or some prestigious colleges summer program/camp can help more when applying for colleges?

Do the college summer programs cost you anything? And is the internship related to what you want to study/do in the future?

@TheEarlyBird I am planning to major applied math associated. The summer program/camp at least costs me 5000$(if i can get a FA), and there are not too many good choices for math. The internship is going to be in a well-known Chinese company(I am an international student), I basically help out, more is about experiencing and learning. Thank you.

Personally, I’m biased towards the internship because I had an excellent internship opportunity the summer before starting college and it really helped my resume stand out as a freshman applying for research positions on campus. I applied to about 10 different, competitive labs to cast a wide net and got interviews and offers from 8 of them, which was way more than I was expecting as a freshman. And I’m now working with my top choice.

I think (and this is just my opinion) that the internship would be more beneficial than the summer program because you need to be qualified for the job at the company, whereas anybody can participate in the summer program so long as they pay. Also, $5000 is a lot.

I would agree with earlybird’s reasoning. The internship would probably be better in your case. Now, if you had math opportunities at the summer program AND it was free/ cheap, then you might have a more difficult decision.
