I'm a high school junior who would like to go into Marketing with a minor in Finance. My college list (schools I plan on applying to) includes Iowa State, Indiana U Bloomington, and UofMinnesota Twin Cities.
I have the opportunity to have an internship with the CEO of a major international investment adviser company. I was wondering... do you think this would help me get admitted to the business programs I'm interested in? Would it look good on an application?
Thanks!

Do it because you want to do it for yourself. Not because you think it will help you get admitted anywhere.

You may in fact find that you hate business, which would mean that you might have to come up with a whole new list of colleges to apply to.

It probably would help if you can get strong LoRs from said CEO. Even if that doesn’t work out, at the very least-you’ll get a cool experience to put on your resume and you’ll know better if you like business or not.

Thanks. I do want to do it for myself, but the only downside is that it’s during the summer and I wouldn’t be able to work.

Assuming your family can afford it, this sounds like an interesting opportunity and it’s better to find out sooner rather than later whether you actually like the business world. It would be a shame to end up in a business program in college and discover then that it was a mistake.

But do find out what exactly you’d be doing as an intern. Are you shadowing the CEO and sitting in on meetings? Will you be able to take on a project of some kind? You want to have something to show for your summer for which you can be evaluated, you’ll want to pick up some new skills, and you’ll want to demonstrate what you have to offer - so don’t get stuck being a glorified - and unpaid - clerk and nothing more.
