Internships and other summer plans

My 10th grader is waiting to hear back about a social justice program that is offered to incoming 11th and 12th graders in our area that is full time for probably 5 weeks. It pays a stipend. She got accepted into a mentor type program which mentions a 2 week trip but I have to go to the informational meeting to learn more. I doubt she can do both but not sure if she will even be accepted to the first one.

My college daughter who is in her 2nd year of most likely a 3 year Bachelor’s in accounting and finance due to dual enrollment has accepted an internship at a well known accounting firm (one of the Big 4). I don’t have dates but I’m hoping the two girls will have some mutual days off when dh can take off of work to do something for a few days.

When I was in college I had to do two internships for my major though during the school year (10 hours a week for the first, 20 hours a week for the second) We were not allowed to get paid. I am surprised by how well the internships pay now though it may be the field. My daughter will be living at home since it is in commuting distance but I don’t think it provides housing, airfare etc like I know some internships do.

My career requires a masters, and I was required to do two “externships” in graduate school. My older daughter’s experience was similar.

My younger daughter had 3 summer research positions. Two were on campus and provided a small stipend. The third was at a well known research facility and provided a beautiful apartment, transportation costs, and a very, very generous stipend.

My career is the same as a poster above. We were required to have 300 hours of practicum time which was part of our graduate program, and was for college credit. This was done during the masters program.

I believe an internship that gives college credit can be unpaid with no questions asked…because it’s for college credit.

The internships mentioned here sound like job experience in the student’s field of study. This is always a good thing.

Meanwhile… my college FY is thinking a summer-long employee discount at Barnes and Noble sounds pretty darn good.

nervous laughter He’s going to be living with us forever, isn’t he?

Sounds about right for an English major at The Writers’ College. ?
