Internships (What should I be looking into)

I'm currently a junior and looking for an internship that involves day trading either equities or forex. I have no desire to work at a company like Edward Jones or AG Edwards learning how to become a salesman selling mutual funds and large cap stocks. I'm in the midwest so my school hasn't been able to lure in many financial firms at the career fairs.

Now my GPA isn't amazing, however I have a passion for this and have done very well through online trading. Where should I look just to get my feet into the water? I don't need a big firm like Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan, just something to get me started.

Umm... try the career center

You should try small firms like Lehman, Merril Lynch and Bear Stearns. They offer lots of internships to juniors

lol (10 char)

hahaha

OP: It is very difficult to get an internship in sales & trading. You've suggested that your GPA is not particularly high on your school is not a target for the larger financial institutions. I would lower your expectations and get a PWM or some other internship. As a junior, chances are you will only get to do grunt work.

You might considering working for a small investment manager. Most are long-only and pretty vanilla, but some both manage traditional accounts (IRA's 401 Ks etc.) but some also run funds for their "qualified investors"

There are very few day trading internships... its the nature of day trading. Closest would be prop trading, I'd look for those. But honestly, most of the firms have very, very high standards so good luck.
