Internships?! Who's doin them, Who's in them, and Who's participating.

What did you guys (girls) get into? Getting Paid? What's it about?

I'm bored soooooo ANSWER.

what’s considered an “internship” in this case?

Eh what the hell, research opprotunities count too. Actually, so does anything that’s interesting.

Got accepted today! Well, it’s not “official official” because I still have one more interview left, but everyone gets the spot anyways. It’s a paid internship - mainly to cover travel/meal expenses, so I’m not expecting a lot leftover, but that’s okay =). It’s a research internship.

yayaya! Congrats!

Fiesta?

Congrats xxrunningonempty!! (your name is very long to type)

Summer research. Paid the typical stipend.

^ nice. What is the typical stipend? I’m doing research too and my dad said I might get paid?

Like minimum wage basically.

I would ask for as little as possible - the more you get paid, the more you’re expected to work. Besides, most high school students are still learning the basics and we therefore never get things done as efficiently as the seasoned lab technicians, so it would be kind of obnoxious to be expecting too much pay.

Also, the opportunity to get recognized for the research > being paid.

Well I’m basically working on project with a post-doc. He called it a “collaboration”. Does that mean I’d get paid more? I never really asked money specifics tbh.

Summer program at Weizmann Institute in Israel. Might do research at a local university, too.

I’m doing some Computer Internship…should be fabulous >_>.

Lol why do it then?

Not really sure that I am. Haha. I’ll probably just do a lot of enjoyable community service, and some clubs during the school year. I’m going on 2 vacations and studying over the summer.

2 week internship- desk/grunt work in an NGO. Unpaid.

I agree with that. I’d be happy to work anywhere regardless of whether it was a paid or unpaid internship.

But my travel expenses will amount to ~$800 for the 2 months I will be working there. I was gonna go there anyway (mainly because it was one of the better research facilities in the state). I’m happy they did throw in that work pay offer, at least that will keep my mom from complaining =]

Whoa! My internship is a 40 hour week. hahaha hellll no. I’m going to have to call them up.

I did 40 hours/ week last summer. And the summer before that. It’s not THAT bad…

Ah, I did about 35 hrs/week at my internship two summers ago. And when I got home I had to prepare materials for the next day. But it was a lot of fun and I felt like I was doing something worthwhile.
