Summer "Internships"

Sup pplz,

Many people are working during the summer and calling it an "Internship"... no, I dont mean retail, I mean big banks, brokerages, stuff like that. Would it make sense if you called it that or would you look ridiculous?

Also, not to gloat at all (I swear), how many people do you know have worked at a major Investment Bank at an International Office during their highschool years (summer time ofcourse)? :D Im ecstatic!!!!!!!!!!

At my school there’s this relationship with a major bank (not like Bank of America or anything, like investment bank) and a lot of kids get hired to become interns there over the summer.

I assume kids with connections (because of family) can get internships at top investment banks easily.

It’s not as glamorous as anyone could possibly imagine it to be. Despite their best intentions, they can’t legally give you work that will put them in a position of a). serious liability with their clients or b). need certification in the field.

Which means “interning” in high school will often mean unpaid labor of being the office slave.

Don’t get me wrong, some intern positions are very rewarding; it’s just that most aren’t what a high school kid should even want to consider during their valuable summer break.

i got on of those at a hospital.

@Gryffon5147: I understand, but I think I’d atleast get a SOME taste of things before I jump into finance and find out I dont like it. I know its not the same as a regular hire, but you get to work hard, and show your passion for something you really like.

I’d rather be a “grunt” than a Camp Leader or something. I like this stuff, a lot.

You made a pointless thread just to brag?
Congratulations.

@Unconfidential: Maybe if you read the post you’d understand the quenstion.

Yeah I read it.
My first post is my initial reaction.
And to answer your question, no.
