Interschool Competition

Hi everyone! When it comes to highly selective schools, I’ve heard a lot of talk about admissions committees being limited to only selecting one student maximum from a given school (excluding exceptional charter, private schools, etc.). I know that colleges do their best to seek regional diversity, but to what extent is that the case? This is a topic that I’ve always heard gossip about, but I haven’t received any conclusive answers. I go to a very competitive mid-sized suburban public high school, and I know a few people (maybe more) are applying to the same early school as me. Though all of us are academically competitive, one is a music prodigy, one is a double-legacy who largely does musical extracurriculars, and I have perhaps the strongest academics, the strongest and most diverse extracurriculars, and would offer a level of religious and ethnic diversity that they wouldn’t. I don’t mean to make it seem like I’m pitting us against each other (that’s not my intention at all!), but with a group of applicants who are so diverse and, to my understanding, all pretty exceptional and meet the school’s standards, would admissions officers be examining the situation as selecting only one of the 3+?

Colleges do not have quotas by HS. You will be competing for an acceptance among a much larger group than your HS class.

You should apply where you want to apply. Don’t worry about other people. Have a range of reach, match and safety schools.

Do what’s best for you and don’t worry about where your classmates are applying. Also, I don’t think religious diversity is a thing. Most schools don’t consider religion when reviewing applications.
