interveiw

i was just contacted for an interview for later in the week
what kind of questions do they generally ask? what should i prepare for?

same question ^
i was also wondering if it was mandatory..

how come people are getting interviews at a time when their applications have already been read and a decision already made.?? shouldnt interviews be done before the admissions deadline

Not necessarily. The interviews are given on a rolling basis to give prospective applicants the opportunity to learn more about Penn. Going into the interview, have a clear idea of why Penn, your interestsl and future aspirations. Those points usually take up the bulk of the interview. It tends to be very relaxed and not very comprehensive (i.e. an MIT interview). So, take it very easy and enjoy it. It's a great opportunity for you to learn more abou the university from an alumnus' perspective.

my situation was weird--i applied ED to the college and got deferred, but i wasnt offered an interview during the ED round. i got contacted about two weeks ago to have an interview for the RD round. it was extremely informal, we basically just talked about what my high school was like and why i want to go to penn. he was surprised that i didnt get an interview a few months ago and i got one now (so was i, obviously). oh well, im not gonna try and rationalize penn admissions :-)

hold on, when is the admissions deadline?

blahhh90, how did they contact you for an interview?

a lady contacted me by phone on monday to schedule an interview for tomorrow

how much weight is put on interviews?

^^

VERY little. This is due mainly to the fact that people are randomly chosen for interviews due to the lack of alumni who volunteer. It's more for you to get the know the school than it is for them to judge you.

ditto to the thread above. just had my interview today. really nice and intelligent ladty. we spoke for like an hour and a half. most of i was her talking but not in a bad way as much as telling me things i might/should want to know about penn. i asekd questions at end and it was def more an informative type thing than it was a "oh crap this interview can totally screw me over" type thing. y'all read me?

I still haven't been contacted...Could that mean they are not considering me a serious candidate or do they randomly assign interviews?

The interviews are conducted by alumni, so it would depend on whether there are a lot of alumni in your area available and willing to conduct interviews. Interviews, I'm guessing, are randomly assigned based on alumni availability.

I live in Boston, I don't see how there could be no alumni avaliable for interviews...
