Interview for BS/MD

I think that if it comes up in conversation you are free to discuss your religion as long as you respect the fact that others may have different beliefs.

i had my interview at Drexel the other day and the interviewer (a neonatal specialist) asked me if i would preform an abortion. i told him my stance on abotion, saying that i do not support it unless it is for a life or death situation (for example the mother will die unless the baby is aborted). i said that i'd be more inclined to recommend the patient to another doctor with different ethics than me, because it is not my choice to decide whether or not the patient can have an abortion. the interviewer seemed like he didnt agree with my stance and said that this approach would cause me to lose all my patients. that comment made me feel as if the interview didnt go so good.

yeah that wasnt a very good answer, i'll be honest. ever read the cider house rules by john irving? it deals with abortion, and how the protagonist was originally against it, but he ends up giving women abortions because there was nowhere else for the women to go. i think id agree with your interviewer because you as a doctor should be helping your patient out, and by refusing a procedure that they want/need for whatever reason, you are no longer helping them, you are an impediment to their physical and emotional health. whether you agree with it or not is one thing, but you cannot refuse to serve your patient. its like those pharmacies that refuse to dispense the 24 hour after emergency contraception drug; what right do they have to refuse it when that drug can have a huge impact on a woman's life?
sorry about the rambling, but when i saw your post, i just had to say something.

I had an interview for a preMed program at a med school, still waiting on the result but I got good remarks, but there's a lot of medical ethics questions, mostly trick ones, but to stay on the safe side, try to be a good Christian and be pro-life regardless of what you truly believe, haha. I spoke my mind, and I said that I'm pro Physician Assisted Suicides depending on the scenario, although I'm against abortion just cause I believe that we own our lives and people who are lucid and wants to die have the right to pass away with dignity, however, we must give a fetus a chance to live and experience life and leave him the decision for his fate, it's good to keep an open mind. There's the "Why do you want to be a doctor question?" "What makes a good doctor?" "What's the reason that made you choose medicine as a career?", these questions almost never fails to come up, so I suggest you practice them, back them up with community services. NEVER, NEVER LIE, dont tell them you play a piano if you don't, they test your integrity, happened to one of my friends!!! DONT BE FAKE, I was very relax during my interview, and it conveys a feeling of sociability and compassion, which is what they're looking for in a potential doctor.

I was interviewed by a biomedical researcher, a forensic pathologist, and the dean of admissions, whom isnt a doctor, so I stayed true, haha. They were more liberal minded when it came to life issues.
