Interview Help

I scheduled my interview, and now am freaking out! I was wondering if someone could tell me the sort of questions they ask, or the general idea of what I should prepare myself for? When I get nervous or thrown off-guard, I tend to ramble and mumble, a volatile combination so I'm trying to assuage that possibility by preparing myself as much as possible.

There are tons of threads on interviews in this forum. There is no reason to freak out, the interview is very casual and relaxed. They want to get to know you and also let you get to know Rice (through them).

Just relax and have a conversation.

As Antarius said, if you search around the forum, you’ll find a lot of people’s interview experiences with Rice, and from what I’ve read, they’ve been overwhelmingly positive. You can probably expect some standard interview questions (what made you want to apply to Rice, what are you interested in, etc.) to be asked. In my interview, at least, there were no 'off-the-wall-let’s-scare-the-crap-out-of-the-interviewee" type questions. If you’re reasonably prepared, there’s no reason you’ll ever be totally confused or caught off guard.

I had an interview with a Senior student at Rice, and at one point, we ended up talking about where we were going to see The Lion King 3D that night (it was awesome, by the way), and at another point, we were talking about the values of Harry Potter. Not particularly obtuse or convoluted topics. So, don’t sweat it, come prepared, and you’ll do fine. Just be yourself!

Like LastShadow said, don’t sweat it! Mine went great - most of the focus was on what I did over the summer, what books I like, etc… Just be yourself, and you’ll be fine. :)
