<p>well he really does know what he's talking about, our school is so small he knows everyone personally and a lot of people talk to him all the time. whats bothering me is a. he seemed to expect that i would have one and b. there are so few people in my school applying to columbia this year... i'm talking maybe 6?

<p>I meant that he doesn't know what he's talking about with respect to this. A counselor isn't likely to know too much about the internal operations of every single college admissions office. The fact that he "expected" that you'd have an interview is further indication that he doesn't have a clue how it works at Columbia. None of it has to do with merit, and he obviously doesn't know that and is wrong.</p>
