Interview Policy?

I was emailed about a week ago about the interview opportunities. The only offerings were this weekend in Cambridge (which is at least a 1 hour drive). All of my other schools have offered alumni interviews in my area. I waited to the last minute because I thought the drive was ridiculous, but decided to schedule anyway. However, all slots were filled! I know Northwestern says the interviews are optional, but I'm getting kind of nervous because I didn't visit the school either. Has anyone spoken to the admission office about their interview policy? What if it is just not feasible for you to get to where they offer them?

Interviews aren’t really important I think. I applied ED without an interview, and got in. There were a lot of people like me too. But I’m not sure if there’s a difference between their interview policy for ED and RD.

I as well applied ED, did not pursue any kind of interview, and got in.

Don’t sweat it buddy.

Email the admissions office to tell they you tried to schedule an interview but all the slots were filled, and request they note this on your application. That way you show “demonstrated interest”.

I emailed the admissions bc all the slots were filled in my area. this is what they said.

Dear _____,

Thank you for your interest in Northwestern University.

Unfortunately we only have a limited number of dates and interview slots in each city. Please know however that only a small percentage of our applicants are interviewed each year, interviews are completely optional and your chances of admission are not hurt if you do not have an interview.

While we do not have a waiting list I encourage you to periodically check the website to see if any slots have opened (as other applicants sometimes need to cancel or reschedule their interviews).

I have made a note of your request for an interview in your admission file.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,
Scott

Mom’s best friend used to interview for NU. Interviews have no influence on decisions - they are solely for informational purposes so the student can learn more about NU.

Thanks everyone, I did end up emailing the admissions office and the guy was really nice & said he would make a note of the fact that I tried to get an interview.

I have the same problem. I’ll email them too.
