Interview Request

I know UMich says that the interviews are random, but I suspect they are not. All the top kids (and by top I mean top by any standards) at my kid’s high school got them, but one (who is not mine, but now apparently freaking out).

Does anyone know why this would happen?

Interviews didn’t seem to correlate at all with admission decisions when my D applied 2 cycles ago.

At most schools interviews are done by alumni and there are only so many volunteers to go around.

Aren’t interviews extended to only COE applicants?

Perhaps that is the case here.

Interviews are random even when they don’t seem to be. Getting or not getting an interview in theory, doesn’t help or hurt you. It’s for you to find out about Michigan.

But if you do one always put your best effort forward.

Do applicants have to do anything special to be considered for the interview? Assuming the Mich randomly (or based on whatever criteria they may have) selects candidates and students dont have anything to opt-in for interview - please confirm.
