DS was called for an interview by a local Lafayette alum. He had an interview with an adcom at an area hotel in October. I think he should take the meeting but is this typical?

My husband and I used to be Alumni Admissions volunteers for Lafayette (class of '84). LC likes to offer Alumni interviews whenever possible. It gives the student a chance to ask questions of someone who actually went to the school, in a less formal setting than with the Admissions Rep. Kids feel more comfortable asking things about campus/social life, etc. Also gives the school additional info on the student. I'm not sure how much (if any) weight LC gives to the report the Alum sends in, except that doing the interview shows that you are interested in the school. We had to go to training classes to become AA reps. It was supposed to keep us up-to-date on changes at the school, but if your alum rep is more than 5 years old and gives info that differs from what LC says, I'd believe the school. I would encourage your student to do the interview. Good luck!

DS is meeting with the alum today - he is class of '98, DS looks forward to meeting someone who has been a student there recently (grandpa is class of '51)
