Interview with Smith next week-help

Hi, would love some input in my daughter’s chances of getting admitted and If we should include more in our resume that we are putting together for her interview.

She will have superb teacher recommendations.
Not many AP classes as she did not test into them, not because she didn’t take them. Testing is her weakness, hence not submitting her ACT.

Essay-great writer topic will be on her passion for feminism and desire to work in women and children’s health sex/education
Additional notes: She is Hispanic and Native American ( my mother unknowingly signed away rights for me to be adopted. She is an indigenous woman from Nicaragua and we recently reconnected. This has impacted her interest in women’s rights internationally.
She founded her feminist coalition club in a top Missouri HS. She has the board of education listen to her and they reworded dress code policy due to her protest she organized.
She would be first generation for her to graduate.
Financial aid is a must.
Any thoughts?

I think she has a shot. Her GPA is low-ish for Smith but she sounds pretty strong otherwise. I would caution you, though, to refer to her application, resume, etc as HERS and not OURS. And carry that attitude adjustment forward, for instance, do not go into her interview or use “ours” with any admissions people. Trust me I understand- you are probably doing a lot of work in this process as far as scheduling and making sure deadlines are met and stuff, but the colleges, and your daughter, need to know its her process, not yours.

If she loves Smith, I hope she is also applying to Mount Holyoke. It’s a wonderful school, I can’t say enough good things about my daughter’s experience there. Your D’s GPA might make her a better match there. It’s close to Smith, and the students at all 5 colleges (incl Amherst, Hampshire, and UMass) can take classes at the other schools.

How did it go? If she shows genuine interest and applies to Smith ED, she has a much better chance. Good luck!

It went amazingly. After discussing her activism the interviewer stopped her and said, “That’s it, you have to go to Smith!”
She does plan to visit amount Holyoke as well, everybody always has positive things to say about it!
Thanks for the advice and answering!
