Interview

I’m a current junior with a high interest in Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper as an undergrad. I know Carnegie values demonstrated interest via interviews, but after contacting the school with the number from this alumni directory (https://cas-webapp.andrew.cmu.edu/cmac/index.html), they told me that they “don’t do that anymore.” I asked what kind of route I should take then if I was interested in an interview, and she just repeated that phrase (pretty condescendingly at that, but I guess that’s not relevant).

Of course I’m slightly confused about this interaction. Has Carnegie stopped interviewing students before they apply? Have they stopped interviewing applicants in general? And if so, how does one “demonstrate interest” then? If anyone could provide some insight then I would be super grateful.

Right now they are working with the class of 2022 - decisions just went out over the weekend. I think they do interviews in the fall/winter. So what the admissions person might have been saying is they are done for this year. I would check the website again over the summer for any updates to the process.

I asked the same question and was told there are no interviews anymore. I asked if there has been a recent policy change in this regard and was told that indeed there has been a change in the process and starting this year there will no longer be any interviews required or offered.

at turn tartan overnight back in Jan they said the same. interviews are not required for 2022 and wont even be offerred for 2023

If you want to demonstrate interest, definitely stay in contact with Admissions. Call, schedule a tour and an interview, and visit campus. If you can, sit in on a class and talk to professors and admissions counselors.
Also, if you have the $$ for it, consider applying to Pre-College for this summer. Im not sure if registration closed, but I attended for drama and was accepted to the School of Drama just from that program. This is specific for my major category only, but I don’t doubt that it would give you a leg up for Tepper if you did well.

Carnegie also hosts a lot of informational sessions throughout the U.S. during the summer and fall. I would check their website to see if there are any near you
