I emailed an Alumnus for an interview about a week ago and he hasn't emailed me back yet! With the interview deadline only a couple weeks away, I don't know what I should do. Should I wait it out, send another email, or email another alumnus for an interview?

I agree try finding other alumnus in your area. I had an interview with an alumnus and it was a wonderful experience, BUT it could have been because the alumnus was a friend of my family.

Haha, okay so I emailed another alumnus and around the same time that guy emailed me back the first guy also responded. So I just went with the first guy.

Lol. So NOW, after I got in touch with the first guy, we set up a date/time but not a location. Problem: The interview is tomorrow. And he hasn’t responded to the two emails I’ve sent.

Oh Alumnus. Why are you doing this to me?

I’ll call him if I don’t hear by tonight haha.

This doesn’t make any sense for someone to have to go through all this just to be interviewed. lol After all this work I’m sure the interview will go amazing. If I struggled this much just to get interviewed I would refuse for the interview to go badly.

Reread the emails maybe he slipped the location in somewhere. If not, just call him.

The school doesn’t really take into account the interviewer’s opinion of the student. The point of the interview is to let you learn about the school from someone who has been there. The alumni interviews are mostly supposed to be a substitute for visiting the campus, not interviewing at the admissions office.

(So far all the students I’ve recommended have been rejected and one of the only students I said not to admit was admitted. As I predicted on the form I sent in to the admissions office, she didn’t wind up going to CMU.)

RacinReaver, my daughter has already visited campus. Will it “count against her” if she doesn’t schedule an alumni interview? (I.e., taken to show a lack of interest in CMU?)

I don’t think it’ll matter HoComom, especially if she dropped by the admissions office for an interview. Interviews done on campus actually do matter a little bit for admissions since the people deciding who gets in and who doesn’t are the ones talking to you. Alumni interviewers are volunteers who may not have even been on CMU’s campus in ten years, so they might be completely unfamiliar with what’s been going on lately there.

Ages ago when I applied I visited campus and interviewed with one of the admissions people. I think it was a very positive interview, though I have no idea if it swung things in my favor or not.
