The question as stated above was quite simplistic. I know that doing an interview can help my chances, but what if I do badly? Will there ever be negative effects, or are they like extra credit?

Yes, they can. If you’re socially awkward, reveal an inconsistency with your application, strike the interviewer as an especially weak, unconfident person (they’re looking for “leaders,” etc), seem unpassionate/dismissive about your activities and accomplishments, reveal that your helicopter parents did all the work, etc, etc, it is possible the interviewer will note that in his/her write-up, and it may hurt you. On the whole, though, the interview isn’t something to stress over. Be prepared, but act natural. ;)

I didn’t get into that college, because I forgot my additional supplement.

Thanks, I unfortunately am very socially awkward. I am trying to work on that, though I cannot say how successful it has been. I’m freakishly shy.

Maybe it would help if you had your parents practice with you. After a while, you will notice that there is a general set of questions that almost all interviewers will ask and if you can be prepared for that, they I think it’ll really help you.
