Hi everyone,
I applied to Cornell University as a Nutritional Sciences major in the College of Human Ecology. I am interested in an alumni interview but have not been contacted as of yet. I am positive that interviews are going on right now (there are TONS of Cornell alumni in the area). I know of at least two people who just got interviewed yesterday. Is it bad that they contacted them and not me? How can I set up an interview? Thanks for your input :)

If you are not selected for an interview, then they didn’t feel the need to interview you. It’s more or less arbitrary who gets interviewed. I was never selected for an interview and I got in RD just fine. (I was in NorCal so there was no shortage of Cornell alums).

I am in a similar position. Applied CAS, and never got contacted for an alumni interview, even though I’m sure Alumni are available in my area

I received an email recently for an interview/information session. Apparently all cornell applicants from my town will be there (not many), so I don’t really know how it is going to work.

Btw what is the appropriate outfit to wear to these things? If it was going to be a one-on-one thing, I would have wore slacks, and a dress shirt, but since this is going to be with others, I don’t know whether I should wear casual clothing or not. The location is also a public place (Panera Bread).

Also, if the interview goes well, does it increase your odds of acceptance?

there are many threads on this topic. These are not interviews, they are Alumni Information Meetings. Cornell neither requires nor offers interviews to applicants EXCEPT in Hotel and Architecture.

Alumni are assigned to applicants, some do not contact the student and some do. I contact a lot of students who NEVER reply…check your e-mail that you used with Cornell and your spam box!!

A meeting can help you understand Cornell and make a positive impression…relax and ask questions. In a group session, I would wear a step up from jeans but not a suit.

I had an interview for CALS, but I have friends, including one that lives within 10 minutes of Cornell, that didn’t have interviews. I had a one-on-one interview and wore my high school’s dress uniform because my interview was right after school.

Thanks for the posts everyone! It turns out that my interviewer was eight months pregnant, so it took a while for her to get clearing from CAAAN to do a telephone interview instead. Nevertheless, I got accepted! For future applicants, don’t fret about this minor detail. An interview really has no bearing on whether or not you’re admitted into Cornell.
