Last year, we interviewed at so many schools. Some were excellent interviews, some were not that excellent. I cannot tell you guys what to do during an interview, because frankly I did not know myself then what to do.

What I refer to is this: You go for an interview to a school you really, really want to go. But still, during the interview you feel NO CONNECTION at all with the interviewer. For whatever the reason, maybe he/she is having a bad day; maybe its too early; maybe he/she has made up his/her mind you are not a good candidate for the school; maybe he/she is not "tipping" their hand showing interest in you. I don't know. But if that is the case, what can you do?

This might not matter since my son was accepted at his first option (Thanks God). But in that moment, with all the pressures, trying to look good, etc; its exasperating.

Be prepared for this. Think about what you (students, parents) can do. I'm just throwing it in here so you guys can discuss. And prepare ...

except for that hotchkiss interview, my interviews were awesome. that one was bad becuase i didn't know much about hotchkiss and the interviewer asked what i liked about it. when i muttered something about academics, he said 'well, other schools have that, too'. so i told him honestly that i did not know that much yet.

the others were great-the deerfield one wasn't THAT good, but i dressed very formally and the interviewer was very impressed by that.

What I'm going to do is fly into Hartford, tour Choate, Deerfield, Andover, Exeter, and SPS in that order. It's not necessarily my least favorite to favorite, or else it would be Exeter, Choate, SPS/Deerfield, Andover.

I realized I was being stupid for not applying to Deerfield just because it's far from a big city. I'm sure there will be plenty of things to do around campus, and hopefully a lot of opportunities to go into Boston or Hartford or something.

I'm still not really sure about Groton. I'm worried that the school may be too small for my taste. Same with Cate.

I think it is very interesting that all of your schools have big names. I'm curious to know what schools you consider reaches, matches, and safeties?

Saolcecseer, what is it with you today? You're being very... not the normal saolcecseer.

I'll answer your question anyway.

I consider all of them reaches, just like anyone else should.

You're going to Milton. I wouldn't really talk about the big name thing.

Anyway..

Yeah. They have big names. They're good schools. SPS has their humanities program. Andover has languages and is close to Boston. Deerfield seems really nice and has a strong foreign language program. Exeter has a class on Islam, and other interesting classes. They also have a really good science program. Choate seems like it's an all around great school, and I'm applying to it because it has a slightly higher acceptance rate.

I'm just stressed. I mean no harm. We all have bad days and I appologize. Anyways...I was just wondering how you saw each of the schools and if there are any other, maybe less "namey", that you were applying to for back up. Or is there a local public/private school you will go to if you don't get in to bs. (not to say that you won't get in, because you sound like a very strong applicant)

Yes, I'm applying to two day schools. One is called Greenhills in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I would have to do some carpool thing. It's about a thirty minute drive. The second option is that I could move with my dad in Ottawa, Canada and go to Ashbury College, which is the best school in the city. Both of these options are much better than going to the local public high school.
