Interviews?

How does interviews at Brown work? I know that it is not mandatory and there is no on-campus interviews. But there are alumni interviews. So, I was wondering does an applicant need to ask the admissions office for an interview with an alumni, or does the alumni contact you if an willing alumni is in the area? And does your chances for admission increase dramatically because of the interview?

Thanks

I'm always surprised when applicants ask questions like this since the answer is clearly on the Brown admissions website. No, you do not need to ask them for an interview and no, your chances do not dramatically increase because of an interview. The interview is meant for the applicant to get a better "feel" for Brown and for Brown to see a more personal side of the applicant. A bad interview, however, can hurt you...but it won't be the only thing that kept you from receiving one of the fabled acceptance letters come December or March.

Once admissions gets your application, your name goes into the system. An alum who is the chair of the geographic region in which you live gets your name online, and then assigns you to an interviewer. The interviewer then contacts you.

Depending on where you live and how prompt both the alumni chair and the interviewer are, your interview could occur a week after you submit your application, or 2 months.

As for the rest, xmobile is correct.
