Interviews

Who's had one, and how was it?? Thanks.

now that interviews are over, how was yours?

syawn, how did you get an interview? what should I do to get one?

I had an interview when an admissions director visited my school. I signed up with my college counselor. I didn't think it was that bad. Pretty basic stuff. I didn't really like it when she asked me what other colleges I was applying to and why. But, eh, hopefully it went alright. What about you?

uh, it was okay/good cuz i felt that at times he really liked what i had to say and even laughed AT me a couple of times. it WAS 40 minutes long, so hopefully that was a "good sign." the worst part was when i pronounced "eclectic" kinda wrong...! i didnt like that i was asked basically what was on my application. the guy was only joking, but he was all "u mentioned UCLA 4 times!" haha o well

tell me more about yours

hmm.. why do i feel like being ignored?

I dunno, I kinda said I was applying to Stanford early (I didn't get in, but I know a lot of kids with better stats than me who didn't get in either) and she was like, "So Stanford is your first choice?" That kinda threw me for a loop. I was like, "uhh, yeah, because I went there for summer college..." And then she asked me, "So where does USC fall into your line up?" And I immediately said "second," which I wish I hadn't done. So I blurted out, "but I'm not sure if I'll get into Stanford... I'm not sure if I'll get into USC either, though... they're both REALLY good schools." But it was comforting because then my interviewer said, "Well, I'm good friends with the admissions director at Stanford, so I'll call and tell them not to accept you so we can have you." I doubt that's why I didn't get into to Stanford, but its still a little encouraging as far as my hopes for USC go.

cantwaittogotocollege:

I'm sorry! I signed up for an interview with my college counselor about two and a half months before the admissions recruiter visited my school. I would suggest calling the USC admissions office to find out if interviews are still being conducted since the deadline is in 8 days.

im sure interviews can only help, not hurt. you guys shouldnt have anything to worry about if you feel like you messed up.

hey cantwaittogocollege, sorry about "ignoring" you...for some reason i didnt see your post when i checked this thread! but...unfortunately, interviews were over last month (i think).

hawaii, what your interviewer said about "having you" was really cool!

heh, thanks. :) I really really really want to get into USC!

MrTrojanMan: you go to USC, don't you? how competitive was it in your senior class for getting in? There are about 8 or 9 other kids (out of 63) in my class applying...

hawaii, WOW, only 8 or 9 kids, and you think THATS a lot!!! hahahaha almost my whole senior class of 106 is applying!!!

btw, what are your stats, hawaii??

i transfered. so i really dont know.

my interview went pretty well, only it was scheduled at 2, but i didnt actually interview until about 2:30 (the officer was meeting with a professor or something) so i just chilled with some college chick in the reception office. Once i got into the interview, it went very well, atleast i think it did. We talked a lot about why i wanted to go to the school, what i was most proud of, classes taken etc. I think they stopped offering interviews in December, so i dont know if u can still get one, but i signed up for mine online.

first choice is USC-can i get a half or full scholarship??
legacy-parents and uncle went there, also had an interview

btw, does hapa means any asian, or specifically japanese?? cuz i think that half chinese is called nitro...just curious haha

syawn:

very impressive stats! I'm trying to bank on the fact that I'm from Maui. A girl from my school who graduated last year is a freshman at USC and she slacked more than I have, so that hopefully bodes well for me!

"hapa" is actually a Hawaiian word that means "half" or "of mixed blood." The original term was "hapa haole" which was derogatory and meant "half white foreigner". It evolved down to just "hapa" and now encompasses anyone who is part Asian or South Pacific Islander and, generally, part caucasian.

I'm half Chinese, but I haven't ever heard the term nitro -- could be a mainland thing. Hawaii is definitely estranged in too many ways!
