Reading some past posts, I see that my past assumption - that Middlebury offered need-blind admissions to international students and it was pretty need-generous is a little wrong. Eek. a little worried My parents' income converted comes to about US$15,000-16,000/year and we still have a sister/daughter to finish uni/college. Are there any international students willing to talk about experiences of financial aid from Middlebury?

The post about the racial event last spring (was it?), that was a little tense, but I suppose it can happen and it was an isolated, personal incident instead of a big group of people ganging on another group or a single person.

I'm an international student, studying in Bucharest, Romania. My IB History teacher is from Vermont and went "ooh" when I mentioned Middlebury. Said they're looking for diversity...I can see Middlebury's mainly Caucasian, but there IS diversity, or at least a strong diverse community. Is there diversity economically and also regarding sexuality? Oh, and for any religion besides Christianity? Muslim community? For Jewish students? (I'm assuming there are vegan/vegetarian options on campus.)

Skimming posts around here, I see that Depression is a problem emerging (or maybe finally being acknowledged). Does Middlebury have such facilities or counselors that help with depression, beyond the typical disorientation and homesickness most college-bounders feel? This is a rather important question as I suffered depression acutely a few years ago and turned suicidal.

Sorry my questions aren't in the tidy format of 1) [this] and 2) [that] and 3) [uhm..these?] and so on...

Now, I suppose I'm going to the more annoying part of "What are my chances" and going insane. But before I go into that, my high school history was rather checkered. Moved around a lot and changed from an American to British to American system and consecutives schools didn't have the same EC choices so I'm lucky if I have anything lasting for 3 years. I'm 19 and going to uni/college at 20 because I thought I could handle living by myself when I was 16 at this college taking a pre-uni course (A Levels). How wrong. So now I'm living back with my parents.

As such, I'm in "13th" grade since I had enough credits to graduate in May but need to finish the damn IB Diploma. 11th grade was practically nonexistent.

Taking Math IIC or IC again and Literature on October 8th. Unsure whether worth it is worth taking the SAT I again since I think my Writing could be offset by my TOEFL and transcript (A/A- in IB English A1 HL) and actual IB Score - a measly 5.

GPA: 4.0 W, 3.6 UW

IB Results from May: English A1 HL-5, Biology HL-5, Chemistry HL-5
Final transcript grades: English: A, Biology: A-, Chemistry: C+

IB Predicted: IB History European HL - 6, Math Methods - 6/7, IB Spanish Ab Initio - 4/5
(As you can see, I am somewhat not linguistically inclined but I would REALLY be interested in learning Arabic, which I know Middlebury has.)

I think the only 'hook' I can really say is that I'm an international student and I've lived in Malaysia, USA, Indonesia, Vietnam and Romania. Diversity, anybody...?

So...that question: What do you think my chances are, given my stats?

I'm not totally enthused by a rural setting, but considering what happened last time I was living alone, I think it's healthier for me to be in a somewhat calm setting where I won't have distractions on the weekends or a "party hearty/clubbing" atmosphere.

But does the surrounding town have at least a bowling alley or billiard hall?
