Int'l student living in the U.S.

happymomof1 is right - there are a number of scenarios under which F-1 students are allowed to work legally. For example, any F-1 student may work part-time on campus without any extra work authorization and any F-1 student may apply for a work authorization for several months' worth of off-campus internships relevant to her academic program ("optional practical training").

I believe that H-4 visas do not allow you to work under any circumstances, but don't quote me on that.

^ Yup, i've called the school and they told me that H-4 cannot get any type of employment. But there are some empolyment opportunities for F-1.

yes, only 19 hours at most on campus per week.

^I have a H4 visa and I can work and have been working because I have a social security number and EAD/labor Card.

I'll probably be in a similar scenario when I apply to college (have an EAD but still waiting on the visa numbers), you can work with a EAD, right (even if you're on H4)?

Thanks b@r!um :)
