Hi,

I'm a intl' so I don't have any counselor to ask those questions.
I'm planning to apply to Ivies; Harvard is my top choice (probably trying EA).
I really didn't understand how many essays I have to write and how many words each one should content.

From what I got, the Essay Application = personal statement which has to contain no more that 600 words. That's the BIG essay, right ? The one everyone talks about?
And I saw that there are optional essays (depend on colleges)??

I did write a GREAT (I think) essay that contains 930 words and it can't be shorten...

Please help me!!
Thank you!

international student from which country? are you absolutely sure you cannot cut this essay down? 930 is wayyyyy over the 600 limit and I’m thinking it may reflect a mediocre grasp of English language/ inability to express yourself concisely.
I know this because I’ve seen colleges writes something to that effect w.r.t essay word limits.
on another not, i’m also an international student, also considering the ivies but i’m not sure i’ll go through with it…it seems so daunting sigh. good luck though :)

I’m from Israel.

You didn’t really help me lol but thx anyway!

You shouldn’t go over the word limit. It’s a word limit. That’s the point of the word limit.

There’s a common app personal statement, which is the “big essay” you’re talking about. Then there are supplemental essays that depends on colleges. Those usually have a shorter word limit, though.
