So this may be an unfounded stereotype, but I read in a guidebook recently that Hamilton students tend to be very conservative and pretentious. The book went so far as to say that the campus is a hotbed for racism and intolerance. I was shocked. When I visited, I did not see, hear, or feel any of this.

Is this claim unfounded? Would a fairly liberal, open-minded student (like me) fit in and feel comfortable at Hamilton?

check out the facebook group (just search for Hamilton 2012)... there is a thread about republicans and democrats, and last time i checked just about everyone is an obama supporter...

Yeah, that's a VERY outdated analysis of Hamilton's social scene. While there are a fair few Republicans on campus, everybody I met on campus is socially very liberal and accepting. And yeah, most people are Obama supporters.

Being gay myself, and one of the reasons I chose to do ED at Hamilton was that I didn't feel ANY intolerance whatsoever on campus. Rather, I felt I would fit in perfectly.

That is really reassuring to hear because Hamilton is definitely one of my top choices, and other than that book, most sources have said that it is a very accepting school.
