Intramural sport as EC?

I realize this most probably is a neurotic and foolish question, but please forgive me! I have yet to begin college and am not aware of the time constraints/pressures of balancing academics with extracurricular life....

I want to become involved in an intramural sport year-round because it'll both provide a solid exercise and fuel my passion for the sport, but I fear that the time I devote to the sport will interfere with possible research/volunteering that I do, and from what I perceive, medical schools are more interested in the research/volunteering/clinical experiences???

To anyone who's successfully balanced college life..
Am I excessively worrisome? Should I engage in this sport since it's a great passion of mine?

Um. Yes .

1) Most intramural sports, at least at every school I’ve ever heard of, don’t last much more than 4-5 weeks, including playoffs.

2) You are beyond excessively worrisome…you’re off the reservation.

3) Why wouldn’t you do something you love? Getting into medical school is all great and good, but I promise you it’s not worth giving up things you care about.

4) The only reason to put any intramural sport on the AMCAS application would be if you/your team went to a national tournament and placed in the top three. Anything less is insignificant and is the same as any other hobby.
