I can’t imagine what these badges will do to enhance the usage of this forum. Frankly, I think it’s childish junk…just like the greenies were. And thankfully they are gone.
I’d love to know whose brilliant idea this was, and why they think it’s so wonderful.
The greenies became sort of a giant anti-establishment fun game, and brought a lot of cc’ers together in this group venture. It was not the intent of the greenies (they were sort of the first iteration of this “badge” thing), but it became a fun, unintended consequence. Not seeing any way the current “badges” could have such a positive outcome.
Trip advisor began using badges a few years ago, and I also found those to be stupid. On the other hand, Trip advisor did send me a cool canvas tote bag many years ago because I got lots of helpful votes. So if CC sends me a cool canvas tote bag, I might reconsider my criticism. Haha!
Everyone in this thread should Agree/Like/Helpful everyone else to maximize our badge counts. If you agree, please click “Agree” so I can get the extra 14 “agrees” to get the “100 agrees” badge.
Well said. I would think that any programming effort put into this site would have some kind of benefit. For example, the agree button was a nice addition. I just don’t see any value in badges.
@Lindagaf no offense to the site, but if I started walking around town with a College Confidential tote bag, I think some close family members would be mortified.
That said, I’ve suddenly received a large number of points, presumably for my badges, so CC swag may be in my future. I think a College Confidential stress ball would be a good idea.
@CCadmin_Sorin I see the badges for likes, agrees and comment, but no badges for “helpful”. By my numbers, I should have the 5 and 25 “helpful” badges.
Actually, no CCer said that. As one who works with youth with special needs, I’d appreciate that word being stricken from the vocabulary - certainly on this site. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T549VoLca_Q
@eb23282, if I understand it correctly, “points” are the total of the number of likes, agrees, and helpfuls (and possibly promotes?—those were discontinued before I got here, but still show up on profile pages) one has received.
