Introducing the CC Badges

Although for some reason, the badge line on the right side does not populate with a number: Badges 0

Yep, mine says 0. And I still don’t care.

I sent a screenshot to @CCadmin_Sorin with the zero in the badge area and my many unlabeled badges. He said it would be addressed by the tech team.

@thumper1 One of them says “Gold membership”.

I’m not sure if that the final description for users that have been here 11+ years, but it is better than what it was originally labelled - “ancient.”

@skieurope does one of MY badges say “gold membership”?

I haven’t the patience to open all those badges to find out.

Plus…I’d rather have a hoodie than a bunch of unlabeled badges!

@thumper1 If you hover your mouse over each of them, and maybe wait a second, the name will display. And, yes, one of the bottom rectangular ones says “Gold Membership”.

I still don’t see any badges. Can I just have a CC thong instead? ;

On Full Site, if I go to that page were post counts and points show, it’s on the left. I can see yours, when I click on your avatar. .

No thong for me. Just send money.

All the badges do for me is remind me that I’ve spent way too much time on College Confidential for my own good.

I’m using an IPad…I can’t “hover” with a mouse. All I see is a bunch of unlabeled icons.

To @CCadmin_Sorin lots of folks use mobile devices to access this forum…so they won’t be able to easily identify the badge icons. Just FYI.

Thanks for the feedback, @thumper1. I’ll pass it on to the team.

I really don’t get all the badge hate here. I mean, yeah, they’re kind of pointless (and not entirely well implemented), but they’re mildly interesting (for at least certain types of people, including me), and are easily ignored if you don’t care for them.

Users should have the option of picking one to go under their profile pic, e.g. “Golden Member”, etc. (Of course the CC hoodie would be more practical.)

I’ve always thought the best metric is the number of helpful posts. Of course someone ahem may have screwed that up by recommending the helpful button be used to indicate sympathy on the “Say it here…” thread. (Who was that miscreant?) :)>-

Ok, today I received the “100 agrees” badge. Having 100 people agree with you, even if only to be polite, is a lot, I think. Anyway, thanks to everyone who agreed with me for making it possible for me to achieve this honor. The badge looks like a clock, or cog or wheel with a checkmark, exactly the same as the 5 agrees and 25 agrees badges, and the sayings are copied verbatim from the “likes” badges. It says something about someday becoming an “MVP”.

The most interesting thing about the badges, where “interesting” is definitely relative, is clicking each one to see who else recently received that badge. It looks like the system is still doling them out. Clicking the “First comment” badge shows a list of the latest new users.

Hey, @CottonTales - I’ve got dibs on the cc thong!! Since they are on sale, supply might be getting low!!

@CCadmin_Sorin I have a question. I noticed a poster with only 2 posts…who has been a member for 10 years. So…I did click on his nine badges to see what they were.

Sticking with us for one year

Sticking with us for two years.

Sticking with us for three years…

And so on all the way up to now.

Seems like when a poster reaches the next annual milestone, the previous one could just be ditched…right? I mean really…if someone has stuck with the forum for ten years…aren’t we smart enough to figure out they did years 1-9?

Plus it makes it look like they have a ton of badges…and in this case…for what? Two posts? Not exactly a frequent contributor to the site!

What’s really confusing is points used to be the sum of agree, likes, and helpfuls. Now the badges has random point values added on.

@thumper1 Or like this one with a single visit in 2005: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/profile/TaehyunKim86

Maybe the points are for being "OG"s, or something.
