Introducing the CC Badges

@damon30, the user had three posts in 2005. Interesting that the person logged on today, though!

@MaineLonghorn Maybe that was system activity related to the badges themselves? I wondered about that too.

I looked and only 403 people have 1,000 or more comments. Wow I though there was a lot more users on here given the amount of views and traffic a lot of threads get.

And another poster who hasn’t posted in 4 years suddenly resurfaced today. Perhaps the big indictment news flushed them out.

it would be funny to see how many posters stopped posting after 3/12/2019.

^ Stay cool. Stay frosty. Keeping posting for a little while like nothing is the matter and then quietly disappear.

@10s4life, I think you have to log in again to get the badge for more than 1,000 posts.

I have 955 posts (now 956). Are there really only 403 people on this site who have 1,000 or more comments (many of whom are likely to be no longer active, given the almost two decades CC has been operational)? If so, I think I need to seek treatment, since I must be an obsessive.

As one of the 238 with more than 2,500, yeah, @DeepBlue86, I think we may have a problem. :slight_smile:

Here’s an interesting thing: The “number of likes” badge series seems to cap out at 500 likes (because I’ve received enough more than that that I would think I’d’ve passed the next badge threshold. This is odd—that seems like something the Powers That Be would like to encourage more than simple post numbers, as a measure of engagement.

Then there are those of us who are part of the group of 21 with 25K+ comments. :slight_smile: Although about half are mods or admins or former mods. When we move a thread, action a flagged post, or communicate internally, those go to our post counts.

@lookingforward

In another forum I participate in, I get sent a $10 Amazon gift card every year for participating. CC could do that, instead of these badges, considering that posters are responsible for a lot of the advertising dollars that CC and its parent company gets. It’s all about the clicks!

LOL. I just changed my profile pic and got a “Photogenic” badge.

Hopefully Billy Batts is not a ToS violation. If so, I’ll change it back. (The system likes it, though.)

@CCadmin_Sorin

I’m not sure that other “old timers” will appreciate the new badge of being labeled “ANCIENT”.
I sure DON’T!!!

jese louise! what a slap in the FACE!

How about “WISE ONES” or something that is FAR less AGE related, and instead is a badge that expresses or indicates an appreciation of the KNOWLEDGE that the recipient processes and CONTINUES to share with the CC community OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME!

PLEASE forward this comment onto the powers that be…
the title “ANCIENT ONES” for this “badge of honor”, shows how CLUELESS and myopic those who are running this website can be at times.

BTW, I dont hold you accountable in this group. I just could’nt think of the names of other moderators to post this to.

And here I thought it was fun, and might look forward to being called “ancient” myself one day.

But then again, I always thought that the coolest person of note in the textual history of English was the Venerable Bede, because nearly anytime Bede is referenced the title “venerable” is included. So maybe I’m just weird.?

While a gift card would be lovely, if the mods work for free, not thinking our participation is more valuable.

This all comes off like a low-rent version of TripAdvisor’s badge system.
(Which is also pretty stupid, but they at least sent me a free luggage tag.)

very glad to see the " ancient ones" badge has been removed!
thanks for listening!
