So i just sat down to write my waitlist letter, and I'm really stuck finding a good way to open it. I don't want to be negative and say that I'm disappointed that I wasn't offered admission, but I can't really say "Thanks so much for waitlisting me!" It's just kinda an awkward thing to be saying I guess... Does anyone have some ideas for a way to open this letter?

Thank them for taking the time to consider your application for admissions.

Whom should we address these letters to? Is a simple "To whom it may concern" good enough?

well since i wrote mine to the dean, i wrote his name. Find out his title first also, you don't want to address him/her improperly.
