I was just wondering what are some reputable firms outside the Goldman Sachs, and other big national firms, like regional or somewhere, where a student with good grades, but didn't attend a top school. I know most of you guys on here are going to Harvard, and Penn. Or are all the investment banks requiring that you graduate with a 3.8 from a top business school?

Lazard is not a Bulge Bracket firm, but it;s as selective as one.

look for family investment banks if you dont like competition.

I like competition, but I know good and well, I'm not going to get an IB analyst job over a Harvard, Mich, Northwestern student. Anyway what is a family investment banking firm? A name perhaps.

For example: First Investors with its HQ in Richmond, Virginia. They do a lot of stuff for the Wall Street. I have to go to a meeting now, i'll tell you more about it later.

just look for regional i-banks versus BBs and not the elite boutiques like Greenhill, Evercore, etc.

What makes you think you can't get a job over someone who went to Harvard, Mich, or Northwestern? They're not demi-gods

What are some pretty good regional banks, for a student with good grades from a regular state school? Ksanders, when I look at those employeed at Goldman Sachs, they are usually Ivy-League alum. I'm sure some are employeed, but they probably could have went to an Ivy or top school, but chose not to.

actually a lot of the people "know" someone and get in through networking...obvs not everyone, but more than one would expect.

If you're from a state school I doubt you can get your foot into Ibanking for undergrad.

It trickles down from Ivies, top 10, top 5 business schools, top 5 LACs, to rest of the top 25.
