yeah I agree. I didn’t open one standardized testing prep book and did only decently on my SAT’s, and I think Grinnell respects that decision. They were able to see that I challenged myself academically rather than invested time into a beatable test, and they rewarded me with early acceptance and an incredibly generous scholarship. If I don’t receive any merit or financial aid comparable, Grinnell is DEFINITELY my top choice. I love how they’re working to get the top students, I think it’s very smart.

Though I am sure that Grinnell College sees its location as a slice of heaven, much as in “Field of Dreams”, it’s a shame that the decorum of at least one of its prospective students, zschattz, a merit scholarship recipient, does not match that shown by the ball players in the movie.

As an applicant to the Grinnell class of 2017, I have been reading this thread without responding. I was upset to find out I did not receive any scholarship money (as my parents are unwilling to pay any more than state school tuition). I was especially upset as I feel that my stats and holistic application measured up to those of students given the scholarships. Considering that my SAT score is better than my GPA, I imagine that SATs were not heavily factored in the decision process. While I, too, love, “how they’re working to get the top students,” I think it is very not smart to take students who identify as having, “challenged themselves academically rather than invested time into a beatable test,” yet do not even understand basic grammatical structures.
Though Zschattz proudly proclaimed that Grinnell should not be weighting SATs heavily, he made a case for why they should. If you challenged yourself to such a degree with a rigorous course load and intellectual material, then why do you not understand that only a “;” and not a “,” can separate two independent clauses? This is the kind of material students learn when they study for “beatable tests”.

Zschattz, in case you missed an SAT writing lesson, next time try a proper conjunction. Did they teach you that in your “challenging” English classes in high school, or are you expecting to learn basic grammar rules at Grinnell?

2400Kiddo, you are grinding a tiny little axe there. On the basis of one punctuation mark you chose to personally attack a poster who made a good faith effort to defend it. That sort of attitude is unlikely to set well with your peers at whatever school you end up attending. I am sure you feel burned by the lack of scholarship money, but please take a deep breath before you post again.

I can’t help but wonder whether or not both @2400Kiddo and @Aboveitall are actually both @nosering, as they display the same bitterness and sense of entitlement-to-scholarship money that @nosering displayed. Both identities were created in the past 3 days, both have only posted a single time and only in this forum and @2400Kiddo says he is an applicant to the Class of 2017 but also says he’s 30 years old in his profile.

Please forgive my suspicious nature, however I am myself a liberal arts school grad and I am a good critical thinker.

I just put a random year to avoid any complications preventing me from posting because I’m under 18. Please forgive me.
Just out of curiosity and for the sake of discussion, how much do you guys think grinnell should weight sat score vs rigor of classes vs GPA vs activities and essays when deciding who receives scholarships and offers of admission?

Just in case anyone didn’t know - decisions come out at 8am tomorrow.

Is that 8 am grinnell time or eastern time?

Most likely Central time. I can’t wait for this decision, though I’ll likely be rejected. :

I wonder how busy this forum will be tomorrow.

Good luck everyone! May the odds be ever in your favor. :D

Yeah, GMT -6.

Where did the information about decisions being released tomorrow come from? I’m looking at the fb page and the portal, and neither say anything

2400Kiddo, perhaps you were not offered early admission because you failed to capitalize the G on Grinnell. That is, after all, a simple grammatical lesson, right?

Just kidding. In all seriousness, I AM EXCITED FOR EVERYONE HEARING TOMORROW!!!

Contacted a guy in the financial aid office.

Fantastic! Will it be through the portal? or through email?

Good question. I’m not sure.

I’m an early admit and I didn’t receive an email. I have a feeling that they’ll send one out to the other Regular Decision folks, though.

Either way, check your portal after 8 tomorrow. It will definitely be on there.

^Cheers for that.

No prob. :)

I keep seeing you around, POmani. I think you share about half of my college application list, lol.

Haha, your username certainly isn’t unfamiliar! It would be quite cool if we both ended up at the same place best of luck!
