iowa young wrtiers' studio

They're going out tomorrow!!!

I got in!!!!!

First session, Fiction!

I didn't get in. :( On the plus side I got into the UVA Young Writer's Workshop. Have any of you heard of/gone to that and what did you think of it?

How did you hear already? Did you call? PurpoisePal---what kinds of thin sg did you submit??

I called!

What's a thin sg?

Sorry---I meant what kinds of things (e.g., writing pieces) did you submit? Congrats on getting in!!!!!!

Thanks!

oh- well, because I applied for fiction, I didn't waste my time with any poetry, so I submitted four vignettes, a short story, and fun tongue-twister conversation that can't really be categorized as anything.

What did you submit? What did you apply for?

Congrats, PP!! I didn't even think to call, though I really should have because now I'll have to wait until Friday to get my answer in the mail. Ahhhh! But yes, congrats!! grin

hey! i went to IYWS last year. it was the most amazing two weeks i've ever had. if anyone has any questions, please feel free to send me a message...i'd love to sell going to you!

Call tomorrow, beed311!

How much did you accomplish in those two weeks, Chanel_nicole? Would you do it again? How much work was there? What were the kids like? What was the best thing about the program for you? What was the worst thing about it? Do you keep in touch with your friends from IYWS?

i wrote more in those two weeks than i had in a long time. i go to a boarding school for the arts where i have creative writing classes three hours a day, so i'm used to writing a lot. i know that if i didn't attend the school i do though, i would have gotten so much more out of it.

would i do it again? in a heartbeat! there's no questions to that.

the work is doable. you have three classes a day, but A LOT of free time to work and stuff.

the kids were absolutely amazing. everyone there loved to write and had a great passion for reading and writing. the people were amazing, once again.

the best thing about the program for me were the people i met and my teacher. he was amazing, and if he's teaching again, (Nam Le) you should request him. oh and the city! iowa city is absolutely amazing! i am actually going back to iowa city to visit with my friends because i love it so much.

it's funny you should ask this. i just got off of the phone with a friend form IYWS ten minutes ago. i met 5 of the most amazing girls i've ever had the privelage of knowing, and we kept in touch via blogger. we all created a blog and we post in it, and write in it and comment on each other. in fact, over christmas break we all met up in chicago and spent 5 days together. and let me tell you, i live in south carolina, on lives in seattle, another lives in NYC, one lives in Kansas city, and one lives in Maine... so it was not a small feat to all get to chicago.

i hope this helps, anymore questions, feel free to ask!

I got rejected. Second session fiction; ten page short story (which I thought was of rather high quality). Alas.

I thought my selections were rather good as well, makes me feel better someone else got rejected now I can be happy about it, haha, not to be mean about it at all. I'm sorry you got rejected. :( I'll probably end up going to Brown now.

My D got rejected also. I thought her pieces were very good. She was disappointed. Anyone know of aprogram in June for 2-4 weeks?

I got in!!! Second session! I'm so excited! Anyone else in 2nd? =)

Congratulations!!!

I'm in first, but what class are you taking? Fiction? CW? Poetry?

Don't worry about it alluringcliche, it's always comforting when other people are in the same boat. Anyway, now we can pursue other fantastic summer adventures. :D

Thanks! I'm taking Fiction--I was never much of a poet! =P

Yeah, I'm taking fiction, too. I love poetry, but I'm much better at reading it than I am at actually writing it :P haha

What did you submit for your sample?

D got her rejection letter, too. I thought she had a good shot at getting in. At least she was accepted for U Chicago, so it's ok!

Good luck to those attending...IYWS sounds like a great program!
