This may seem a little but pointless, but I am considering asking my parents for an iPhone as a graduation present. I brought it up to my mom and she asked if I would even be able to have an iPhone as a Plebe. I told her that I thought it was alright as long as I didn't use the music/video features. I thought that I would double check however to make sure that I wouldn't be asking for something that I cannot use. Any insight from some current mids would be helpful.

Yeah, you should be fine.

They will confiscate your phone (I-phone or not) during plebe summer, and when the Academic year begins, you will be able to use it as long as you're careful about using the media features.

It will only be a problem if you get put in one of five or so really hardass companies. And there are 30 companies total, so the odds are in your favour.

peace

thank you very much!

yea, believe it or not, when i went on my cvw there we plebes with music and even a plebe with an xbox 360.... :P

Don't get me wrong because every computer we've ever owned is Apple, but why get an iPhone with an expensive data plan (+$100 per month) if you won't be able to use most of its features for the next 12 months, which by that time a new improved version will be available? Tell your parents to bring you a nice laptop and digital camera during plebe parents' weekend at the end of plebe summer. Save the iPhone for Herndon 2009.

Thats a question I had. Is a Laptop worth bringing to USNA?

^^^ Yes - you just will not be able to connect to the USNA internet. You will be able to use at sponsors house and there are cafe's in DTA that have free internet that you can go to Sat afternoon as a plebe.

If you are on a varsity sport or D&B and travel, it will help with your studying.

We brought our Mid his laptop at PPW.

would agree- laptop and digital camera much better for plebe year; leave the I-phone for Herndon.

Temptations..... hard to resist, and getting caught can get you fried, "hard" company or not. Not worth it. Save your parents some $$$ and yourself the temptation; instead take some great photos of your plebe year (following reform that is) and send them to your family to enjoy! Those will be priceless!

glad someone had some time on their hands.
Hopefully the plebe had the good sense to keep this at the sponsor's house.

Sure, I'd say its "worth" bringing as long as its already bought and it wouldn't be used otherwise. However, it is in no way worth buying. Like it was stated above, you can no longer use non-issued computers on the network unless you were grandfathered in, which applies to no one outside '08 and maybe '09. You'll have a new computer already. Not top of the line by any stretch, but new and functioning nonetheless.

As far as I know theres nothing technically wrong with having an x-box 360. Company policies differ, but in general plebes are allowed to have and play video games on saturdays during normal plebe libo hours. That being said though, I doubt that its only used during those hours... but hey, you rate what you skate
