<p>I am in single digit days for shopping for supplies, and I have to get a tape recorder/tapes for lessons. I can find the tape player anywhere, but I wasn't sure what any of you think regarding an iPod recorder attachment. Is it worth it or should I just go with the regular old tape player?</p>
<p>What "generation" iPod do you have? It makes a big difference.</p>
<p>Chris, when my D first arrived at CAP, she just had the old fashioned hand held tape recorder. (She owned an IPod too). She soon noticed that so many others had the IPod recorder attachment for their IPod and she eventually got one too. It is pretty small and attaches to your IPod. I forget what it costs. I think you will find that most students there use that. Also, you won't be having to buy tapes.</p>

<p>Again, it depends on what "generation" iPod you have. The newest "5th" generation iPod (i.e., iPod video, etc.) does not accept recording attachments made for the earlier versions. My son has a Griffin (sp?) iPod attachment that works well and costs about $30.00. The newer iPods have a different connecting port and require new devices. I believe Belkin has finally come out with a new device (about $70.00) for the new iPods. This device was not out (but expected soon) when we had to replace my son's iPod a few weeks ago. We bought a refurbished 4th generation iPod because it would work with his recording device (and the new one wasn't out yet).</p>

<p>After searching a long time for an iPod recorder with no luck, I decided I'd try a digital voice recorder. I had tried one a few years ago and was not pleased with the recording quality - but I love the one I have now! It comes with software to upload all files to your PC in .wav format, and then iTunes converts them easily to mp3's. The brand I have is an Olympus VN960PC - I got it at Radio Shack for about $70.</p>
<p>The name Griffin and $30 rings a bell and I think that is what my D has.</p>
<p>Yeah I have a 5th generation, so the 70 dollar one looks like what I might go with.</p>

<p>we looked at these for my D's 5th generation but havent got around to purchasing yet. However, I believe radio shak has one that works with the new ipods for less than $70 and you ca go into a store and try it out, versus ordering on-line.</p>
<p>Yipes- How do I know what generation my D's Ipod is? It's about 2 years old, and it's a full size one, not a little one.</p>
<p>Anothermom, I'm not a techie person but I really think your D has what mine does and so this $30 attachment is all that is needed and fits.</p>

<p>Not to digress from the original topic, but if you're looking to upgrade your tape recorder to the newer (better) digital format, and you don't already have an Ipod, I'd recommend checking out the iRiver T10 MP3 player with built-in voice recorder. I recently purchased one for recording my a cappella chorus rehearsals, and I absolutely love it.</p>
<p>It's a sturdy little unit (no moving parts) with 1GB of flash memory that runs on a AA battery, and the recording quality is far superior to any analog/tape recorders I've used in the past. Best part is that it multi-tasks as a great portable MP3 player, so you can load it up with all your show tunes to listen to when you're not using the recorder.</p>

<p>After a long wait by us, the Ipod digital recorder for the video Ipod will arrive at my household today. There are 2 main brands out there that are supposed to be good, but have been not available. I think we have the Belkin coming. The other is manufactured by xtrememac. They both are about $59</p>
<p>Do varius web searches and you can find descriptions of the 2 products and where to get them. I got mine through jr.com</p>
<p>FYI - D originally wanted the IPOD but ended up choosing the CREATIVE ZEN VISION: M instead because not only does it have a voice recorder, it also has an FM radio, not sure if IPOD has an organizer or not, but this does. Appears more screen colors as well. </p>
<p>Granted it doesn't have all the accessories that IPOD does and it's thicker than an IPOD, but after reading reviews between the two units we chose this one.</p>
