Hi im interested in Gtown SFS and just wondering the differences between the two. I like CULP because I feel like it has a good blend between liberal arts and rigorous work that SFS entails. But IPOL has just a diverse course offerings and feels like a real world education, not just theoretical and books, applicable to a future job. Looking at the course offerings there are some classes listed for IPOL not on CULP, are they interchangeable? For any current students please add your 2 cents, all advice is wanted.

I’m not quite sure what this means:

"*Looking at the course offerings there are some classes listed for IPOL not on CULP, are they interchangeable? *"

You mean listed on the course lists for each major? They’re not completely interchangeable, although there is a lot of commonality. CULP also has a great deal of flexibility, so if you can justify why a certain course would fit into what you’re trying to accomplish with your major, your dean will often approve it.

I don’t know that there’s that much difference in terms of “real world education” vs. “theoretical and books” between the two majors. There’s plenty of theory in IPOL and plenty of case studies and the like in CULP coursework. In either program, what you’re really going to get out of them that will apply to a future job is analytic and writing skills.

CULP is a pretty niche major. When you meat a CULPie, you know it. It’s a way of life.

Everyone else majors in IPOL (I’m planning to).
