My god, you guys seen the footage of iran protests on youtube?

this is beyond insanity.

My god, you guys seen the footage of iran protests on youtube?

this is beyond insanity.

I followed it a bit during the summer. Crazy stuff.

It sucks Iran’s government is so lame because otherwise they would be a sweet country. It potentially could be like the one safe traveling location in the Middle East. And Persian women are hot.

@PhilosophyDude: Dont forget america’s past, it used to lynch, “import”, enslave, rape,kill,molest,discriminate,torture,torment black people. How disgusting and INSANE is that?
@Hatersunite:The “one safe travelling location in the Middle East”? Saudi Arabia isnt safe enough when youre given VIP care by everyone JUST because you are a visitor/tourist? Isnt Dubai safe enough when youve got caucasian women carelessly disrespecting local customs and dressing half-naked (in addition to the Emiratis not saying anything just as not to offend guests)?
Smarten up, going to college wont make you smarter. Go and travel. Actually LIVE THERE. Oh, and maybe if the gov. was a bit more LESS annoying and nosy to everybody

uhh… dressing half naked, just because they’re not wearing traditional clothing? I dont think so

I wonder just how much you would need to wear to be exactly half naked.

I think konig was speaking on relative terms.

But OP, I agree, stuff there is messed up. But glad to see people protesting for what they believe in than sitting apathetically.

@Cyberchondriac: That IS disrespectful. Would it be respectful if a woman went in a bikini to the Sabbath or Sunday Mass? nevermind, would it be respectful if I went against every value in America KNOWING that I am IN your country and understand your values and morals? Think about it.

@Gerontius: The Emiratis dress rather conservatively, wearing an abaya, some covering their hair and some dont. Then you have these foreigners barging in like its their 2nd home, with no respect to the country’s Islamic values (well, supposedly). Thats why Abu Dhabi is where most of the country’s wealth is, investment with conscience and morality.

So a woman in Dubai, for instance, should wear traditional ISLAMIC clothing? Even if she is Christian, she must abandon her religion simply because she is a tourist in a foreign country (i.e. foreign to her)?

Yes, most of the Middle East is primarily Islamic. But there is no need for a tourist to have to follow Islam simply because he/she is in an Islamic country.

Now I am not saying that it is right to disrespect the culture simply because you are in a foreign country. If there are basic customs in the Middle East, it’s wise to follow them. But following customs based on an different religion from yours is going against your own beliefs.

What’s with the necro?

@koing
I’m not sure why you said that to me. I just wondered [a month ago] just what sort of cloths you would have to wear to be half naked.

@Grisam
Which religion demands that you walk around half naked (figuratively)?

Iran’s location on the Silk Road would make it an incredible place to see

@Grisam: Theres a difference between “Islamic” clothing and modest clothing. Im not telling her to buy an abaya and cover her face completely. She is not used to that. Neither am I telling her to strip down to a bikini or even tanning nude on the beach. THAT is disrespectful to our culture and religion.

All the muslim world asks for is that when you come here, enjoy your time. Modest clothing (in some areas, t-shirts and reasonable shorts are fine by the people {UAE,Kuwait}, in others, an abaya even without a hijab {Saudi Arabia} would be more appropriate) would be really appreciated.
