Irritated re merit aid

I'm so frustrated.....my son got zero in merit aid scholarship, 4.2 gpa, 1850 SAT, and then I was asked to submit my tax return info and answer some parent certification form questions, which I did and mailed in. I was hopeful that they were going to reconsider him for merit aid, but when I called the financial aid dept said that there would be no merit aid reconsideration at all, that I was asked to send the financial info in for maybe some different loans, which I know we won't qualify for. (we are not rich but own land, including some in my son's name from my parents) Anyway, I was hoping for some merit similar to what a few of his friends received. Ugh! Just venting....but this will affect our decision, and it's frustrating...thanks for letting me vent!!

Did he apply regular decision? That’s really weird because I have a 3.9 GPA with a 1770 SAT and 26 ACT, and I got $5,000 merit aid.

gosimoes: My D wasn’t offered any merit either. We weren’t expecting, just hoping because the school’s so expensive. But my D’s stats were lower, just a hair under sparksfly, so we’re just thankful she was accepted because this is where she’s going. It’s frustrating when you see these kids offered merit that say they’re not going here anyway. I guess that’s part of the game.

Anyway, to make myself feel better that she wasn’t close to getting $, I tracked all the scholarship offers that were posted here on CC. It seems as though your son would’ve qualified for the Torero or possibly the Presidential compared to what I saw. There were very few data points though so who knows what the actual cutoffs were on how they make these awards.

I’ll be sorry to hear he’s going elsewhere. I know you said this was his first choice. Hopefully he was offered $ by other schools and a few years down the road it’ll all be water under the bridge but I know it’s disappointing now. Vent away, it helps.

Thanks for listening! He applied regular decision, and we are visiting on the 9th. If he really wants to go, he can but we will see what LMU and Pepperdine offer. Probably not much either!!

4.45 gpa 1860 sat and I got the alcala for 20k.

D received Alcala for 20K - 2190 SAT - 3.97 GPA - 7 APs -

We are visiting Sat, and can go if he likes it, but some merit aid would’ve made ME like it more! Especially when his friends have been offered merit aid and aren’t going!

its because his sat wasnt high… or his gpa.
im mad i didnt get any either but 1800-area SAT isnt merit aid worthy

They probably consider extra curriculars and essays as well.
