We filed 3 weeks ago and have not been able to retrieve our data.

It pulls up my data, even goes so far as to let me hit the transfer now button, but it’s like FAFSA has a problem on the receiving end. Grrr.

I just did mine and it took about 5 minutes for the whole process. I had to confirm address and filing status on IRS page that was called up by FAFSA link, then hit “transfer” and it all worked. After that I just went through the PIN based signature process again and resubmitted. I filed my taxes on 2/7.

Ok, I’ll keep trying. I checked “Where’s my refund?” yesterday and oddly, it expects us to receive our refund earlier than D does, even though she filed the EZ about four days before our return was filed.

Well I just don’t know what’s wrong with it for us. I’ve tried 3 different computers, using two different operating systems and 3 different browsers on each of those. We go all the way through to “transfer data” every time and then it sends up the FAFSA error. Live help has blamed it on traffic but I can’t imagine that there was a massive influx of traffic at 3am. I just went ahead and faxed in the IRS Transcript to each of the schools and we’ll hope for the tool to work for us next year I guess. It’s been very frustrating to say the least.

I did the FAFSA’s and the CSS PROFILE today, but could not use the tool as we file by paper returns, do not file electronically. Yet I see one school does not want our Schedule A, C or any schedules. Guess I better contact their FA Office. They may be assuming they could see our Schedule A etc, by this retreivable IRS Tool, but we do not file electronically so cannot use it…

calmlyichaotic, How did you get your tax return transcript so fast? It is supposed to take 10 days AFTER your taxes are done. Please do tell if you would be so kind.

Thanks

I filed on Feb 1st, and I haven’t been able to access my info from the IRS site. I KNOW the IRS has my return, because I called today with an unrelated question, and the lady was able to provide me with figures from several different lines on my return. I’m guessing they haven’t finished completely processing the return because it did include several extra schedules for farm income and rental, etc. This is my fourth year filing FAFSA, but I never tried to use the IRS data retrieval tool before. The only reason I filed electronically was to be able to use the retrieval tool before March 1 deadlines, but now I’m skeptical about having the tool in time.

My return finally showed up on “Where’s my Refund” this weekend (and incidentally, the deposit date is a full month after i filed), but still no luck pulling it into FAFSA.

Mum4College, we have a local IRS office and I went there and asked for it. There was no wait fortunately and I was in and out with it in hand within 10 minutes. Hope that helps.

^ that is helpful information. I just found the addy for our local office… will be there tomorrow :-).

I resubmitted FAFSA with IRS transferred data yesterday and received a confirmation from one college today stating that my FAFSA was now “verified”.

Calmlyichaotic, Thank you so much. As soon as our taxes are processed, I will head down to the local IRS office. Maybe I will try before they are processed with taxes in hand. xxoo

This board has been so helpful to me, I’m glad I could finally return the favor even if in a tiny way!

Just had to tell everyone the good news. Filed FAFSA and Yes…we were selected for verification. Filed taxes regular mail 1-30-12. We couldn’t file online because our tax man does not do online. Called IRS today, taxes have been processed. Updated FAFSA using data retrieval tool. Went smoothly! And…just in case… a tax return transcript is being fax’d to us within 48 hours. Wooohoo! I feel so lucky, I just might play the lotto. Thanks to all for the insight and help. :)

What a relief, mim4college!

Same story here. Filed 2/3, accepted 2/4. The “Where’s My Refund” status finally showed up this AM…to be deposited 3/7. The IRS Data retrieval tool says “The information you entered does not match our records, therefore, we are unable to provide you with your Federal Income Tax Information.” when I try to use it. Grrr…

I got the same error and changed my address etc to all caps and it worked for dd1. Now
I keep trying for dd2 and get the technical error message.

Just filed our taxes…I decided to skip the data retrieval tool (I did check and it said the info was not available yet) and simply put the information in myself. since we have been selected for verification for many of the years we have filled out the FAFSA, I am not too worried about it if we are selected again! I decided I did not want to wait the extra 2 weeks for the information to become available on the retrieval tool, as we have our college acceptances, but not yet the aid package.

Hmm. I wonder if it’s an address thing that’s messing me up - N Streetname instead of N. streetname or North Streetname, that kind of thing?
