is 14 credit hours too much for a full time student?

This is going to be my first year in college and I’ll be a full time student. I’m taking english, integrated reading/writing, chemistry lecture&lab, and biology lecture&lab. Is 14 hours too much for me? or is it normal to have 14 credit hours?

It depends on the program and the school. You’re taking 4 classes, with 2 labs, which is a pretty normal full time schedule. If your degree requires 120 credits to graduate, you should expect to average 15 credits per semester. If you take only 12 credits per semester, it’s going to take 5 years to earn the degree.

Isn’t 14 a little low? I think the average is like 15 per semester, giving you 30 per year. Some courses give more though, for example, at my cc calc 1 is 4 hours so I get 16 credits. I think 5 classes is the normal.

That is very similar to what my son took his first year, English, bio, chem, a 3 hour intro class in his elective and two one hour labs. I think it is fine. He is averaging 15 credits per semester.
