Hey CC! As a rising junior with college quickly approaching, my attentions turn towards my less than satisfactory GPA (3.6). These past 2 years of high school have been rough and I haven't always put the most effort into my GPA. Certain events this summer have made me realize that I really need to make better grades for my remaining high school years. Assuming that I make straight As (which I know I'm fully capable of) with the most rigorous courseload possible, what chances will I stand at universities such as MIT and Stanford? How much will a moderately low GPA with a rising trend affect my chances?

*My resulting GPA will be ~3.75 UW at best, however with the amount of APs I will be taking, I hope my class rank won't suffer too much.

No, if you have less than a 7.35 on a 4.0 scale, you will live an unsuccessful life in which you will be attached to your parents forever.
Be ashamed.

^ Frankly, if you haven’t solved every Millennium Prize Problem while developing low-cost AIDS vaccines for Sub-Saharan orphans by now, I’m not sure you’re cut out even for a directional state U.

I know there isn’t much I can do about it at this point, I do know that it will hurt my chances. What I want to know is how much it will. Does anyone have a good idea of how much a rising trend helps?
*I do understand that grades are only one aspect of college admissions. However, they are one of the most important if not the most important one at that.
