Is 3 Years of Foreign Language Really Necessary for Engineering Major?

So sorry I know I should not hijack a thread but I’ve been following since the beginning and do not know what this cal ab or bc thing is. In Oregon we go Algebra I-2, Geometry, Algebra 3-4, Precalc, Calculus I, Calculus 2. Anyone clear this up for me?

Calculus AB approximates the first semester or a little more of typical college calculus (for math, physics, and engineering majors). Calculus BC approximates the first year of such college calculus.

Sounds like Calc 1 could be the equivalent of AB, and 2 the equivalent of BC. AB and BC are calculus exams run by the college board. Most colleges recognize the exams and will give credit for doing well on them. Usually you will get 1 semester of college credit for AB and two semesters for BC. AB is like taking a college course on the slow train, while BC runs at a normal college pace. You would have to check your school’s curriculum to see whether they line up with the AP curriculum, which you can find here: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/descriptions/index.html (Click on the links to get course descriptions.)

It’s always possible that Calc 1 is the same as BC and Calc 2 is Linear Algebra or some other more advanced course. You’d have to ask.
