If it’s the truth, then why are you asking us? As long as you know it’s the truth, then put it down. If, however, it’s the truth because you’re including summer activities or something like a part-time job, include an explanation on your app.

I listed my job on the Employment section and the extracurrics in the EC section. THe EC totals to 12 hours and added with my job, it is 32 hours.

I dont know…my hours worked out to about 40 per week, but it did sound ridiculous so I made my numbers lower. Part of me says its the truth so I should just be honest, but another part of me reads these replies and freaks out about my ECs being seen as unrealistic :/

I listed about 50 hrs/week NOT exaggerating. But, a lot of my activities took place in DIFFERENT weeks (sports, summer activities that I spent significant time on). So, how could an admissions officer assume we are lying.

Are you guys talking about AVERAGE hrs/week. Because I have 55 hrs/week if you add up using just the common app but because many of the week/years were low, it comes out to 21 hrs/week overall for the year (and that would be about 15 hours/week for the school year because I spend much more time in the summer). Is that what you guys mean when you say hours/week? Or do you mean just adding up. I am really paranoid. Someone please answer.

You work 20 hours a week, and you do ECs 12 hours a week. Why are you combining your work with your ECs?

Also – are your four ECs concurrent? Every week, do you spend 12 hours on chess, NHS, church and hospital volunteering? Obviously you’re not, since church is 25 weeks/year – that means a lot of time you’re not spending four hours/week volunteering in church.
