Is 4 AP classes enough to get into UGA?

Hi guys! I’m a sophomore and I still haven’t taken any AP classes, only honors and on-level. Do you think if I take 4 AP classes over junior and senior year, I could get into UGA? I will have a 4.00 weighted GPA by the end of this school year. Should I take more than 4 and challenge myself? Here are my schedule ideas for junior and senior year:

Junior:
Honors American Lit or AP Lang
Honors Chem
Honors Algebra II
Spanish 5
Chorus
APUSH

Senior:
Honors British Lit or AP Lit
AP Environmental Science
Acc Precalc
AP Spanish Lang
Chorus
AP World History

I’m not so sure about AP Lang and AP Lit since I’ve never been the best writer (however I’ve taken honors lit classes for freshman and sophomore year.) So what do you guys think?

I would take at least one AP your junior year before taking four your senior year. How does your class schedule in terms of rigor align with students from your school? You will be competing against them for admission. Then there are the standardized tests you havent taken yet.

Well at my school people are all over the spectrum, so I’m not really sure what would be considered the average student at my school. I go to a public school that is known for being very difficult in GA. Currently I am taking honors world lit, cp bio, cp geometry (moving to honors next semester), pre-AP/honors Spanish 3/4, chorus and honors gov/Econ. Freshman year the only honors classes I took were honors lit and Spanish 2. There are people at my school who struggle in onlevel classes and people who take majority AP and honors, so there are very smart people in my school.

Do you mind at least saying what GA county you’re in? That would help give a little perspective. If you go to one of the more difficult public schools, I would definitely say you need more. The stats keep going up and I believe the EA average this year was 8. I went to high school in Georgia and would arguably say that rigor is the most important thing for UGA admissions with GPA right up there with it. If you think you can keep your GPA up while taking more APs, do it.

Well, I can tell you that it is definitely known for being the one of most difficult high schools in the district and is pretty well known in GA. Anyways, about APs, let’s say I take 6 AP classes. Do I even have a chance then? Or is that still not considered rigorous enough?

WHat do you want to major in?
How many APs does your school offer?
What is your GPA? SAT?

Those are all factors that have more to do with your acceptance than the number you take.

I’m not really sure about my major yet, but I’m considering doing something in the medical field or education.
My school offers lots of APs.
My GPA will be a 4.00 by the end of this semester.
I haven’t taken the SAT yet.

If your school is well known and offers a lot of APs, I don’t think you will be as competitive. However, you never know and you could be accepted.

If you are thinking medical, APChem or Bio might look good although both are hard af (I can attest that APChem is hard without a good teacher :P) APES is a really easy AP class fyi.

Also, if I were you, I’d definitely take APLANG as it helps you prepare for the SAT. I’m in it right now and I’ve learned loads for the essay portion.
And yes challenge yourself! I believe colleges like to see students challenge themselves and have a 3.8 then having all easy 4.0.

I was thinking about taking AP bio or chem, but I’ve heard from a lot of people that it’s really hard like you said, but I’m still going to consider taking it. I also have decided that I’m definitely going to take AP Lang and AP Lit, so that’ll give me at least 6 APs. Hopefully that’ll give me a better chance

Somebody earlier mentioned standardized tests. Those are usually taken in junior year (SAT, ACT, or both). Your junior year schedule looks pretty rigorous but not impossible. My advice to you: Get a head start on standardized test prep this summer - or earlier! That way you won’t have to balance your schedule and EC’s in junior year with as much test prep. Also, the earlier you start the more you’ll improve!

AP Bio/Chem are hard but super important for premed. If you find your Honors Bio class (if you’re taking it) is really rigorous and meets the AP qualifications, you can do a bit more in-depth studying and prepare for the AP exam. I wouldn’t recommend doing that for Chem though.

You might even consider taking the SAT this summer if your PSAT scores are pretty high. Good luck! (:
