I’m planning on taking 4 (well, technically 5) AP classes next year: AP English Language and Composition, AP US History, AP Psychology, AP Biology (and AP Studio Drawing, if that even counts).
I was wondering if this seems like too much considering I’ll have to focus on SATs and extracurriculars as well? Do you guys know what the workload was like for you in any of these classes? I did really well in AP Human Geography my freshman year and am currently taking AP World History, which I’m doing quite well in too.
I’ll also be taking a third year of a language, as well as Trig next year, if that helps.
Thank you!
Yes it counts, so it’s 5 APs. AP Studio Art is generally as time-consuming as the others (with the exception of AP Psych).
With preparing for SATs, it may be too much, but you know yourself better. Some people do fine with 5; others struggle with one or two. Personally, I’d switch out at least one or move one to senior year.
AP psych at our school is a popular senior year class.
If I don’t take AP Bio, I can take Honors Anatomy, but AP Bio won’t be offered my senior year. Do you think it would be preferable to take Anatomy instead? I’m basically forced to take 7 classes next year so I don’t know what else I’d be able to drop since AP Studio Drawing is part of the art program at my school.
If you want to be doing something in the medical field or biology in college. Take AP Bio. Your schedule doesn’t seem to bad but it’s all on you. How much are you doing this year?
I currently have Honors English, Chemistry, Algebra II, Gym, AP World History, and an art class due to being in my school’s art and design program. During first semester I was also taking a night class at a community college, which took up maybe 3 extra hours two days of the week, but I was still able to maintain all A’s around that time.
I don’t plan on taking college classes next year since I’ll already have a zero period, but I know I’ll be focusing on extracurriculars more. AP World History is said to be one of the hardest classes at my school though, as well as one of the most time-consuming, but I don’t know how it would compare to next year in terms of workload.
I’ve considered studying bio in college, but if I’m honest, I don’t really know what I plan to do career wise.
It doesn’t seem to be too bad at the moment. If AP WH is the hardest and you’re doing well, then you should be fine.
Going from one to give sounds like it is too much.
Have you already taken Bio,chem, physics?
What about foreign language?
I would take 4, not 5 (and studio art is very time consuming although if you’re into art it should be fun.)
I took bio last year and did well, and I’m currently taking chem. The physics teacher at my school supposedly isn’t too great though, so I don’t think I’ll be taking that either junior or senior year.
As for foreign language, I took Mandarin I this past summer and II in the fall.
That being said, if I had to drop one of my AP’s which one would you recommend?
You need foreign language through level 3 (4 better).
If you intend to do any sort of STEM major Physics is a must-have (it’s highly recommended regardless if you’re aiming for very selective universities).
What are you hoping to do in college?
I might major in bio, but even that I’m not entirely set on
There’s currently an oversupply of bio majors due to how many of them can’t get into med school and the market is over saturated. So start thinking about majors - pick your flagship and look at ALL the majors involving science accross all colleges (AG, IST, arts&science, engineering, etc) beside biology. There are dozens and dozens. Start thinking broader than in terms of HS subjects and explore to your heart’s contents, go visit your flagship, a reputable LAC, and a midsize regional private.
If you’re ain’t for stem, definitely include physics (AP 1 or honors) and one AP (bio or chem).
